Raphael Mechoulam - Father of Modern Cannabis Medicine

Despite human and cannabis coevolution over untold eons, it wasn’t until 1969 when Isreali chemist Raphael Mechoulam was able to identify the first active compound, THC. Mechoulam made large contributions to the science of cannabinoid chemistry and medicine including work that would lead to the discovery of the endocannabinoid system, it’s receptors, endogenous cannabinoids and the enzymes that break them down.

Mechoulam has been experimenting with CBD and it’s anti-seizure effects in animals and humans since the late 1970’s, isolating and purifying CBD from hashish.
